Dentist education
Any dentist looking to advance his education in his chosen field once they have qualified will need to increase their education level to take on new aspects of their industry. As technology advances so does the art of dentistry in relation to facial dentistry, composite dentistry, crowns, bridges, root canal, etc etc.
What type of dentists are there?
1.Pediatric dentist
A Pediatric dentist is a specialist that has completed four years of training of dental school will also additional training normally 2 to 3 years specifically for children. General dentists treat children as well as adults at pediatric dentists deal only with children and teach them the importance of or hygiene and health to take care of their teeth. It’s also trained in how to make children feel comfortable about visiting the dentist.
2.periodontist.
This is a dentist who has completed the initial training of four years but has also completed additional training generally three years in diagnosing and preventing disease. These dentists can also place dental implants as well as perform cosmetic treatments. Seeing one of these types of dentists sometimes can be the only way to detect gum disease. Your general dentist will often refer you to a periodontist for further examination.
3.endodontist
again this dentist will of have completed four years of training then an additional two years of speciality in endodontics (root canals). And endodontist is then able to perform all aspects of root canal including complex root canal re-treatments and surgery.
4.orthodontist.
Again the minimum four years of training of dental skill the will of completed 2 to 3 years in orthodontics. This is speciality in treating misalignment and facial development braces, retainers, headgear and various other methods.
5.Prosthodontist
after completing the obligatory for years the dental School there are an additional three or more years training to become a prosthodontist. This type of specialist is trained to deal with very simple or very complicated restorations of the whole mouth including treating facial deformities. Procedures which will be carried out regularly by prosthodontist may be dentures, partial dentures, fixed bridges, crowns, implants and veneers.
There are various careers available within the dentistry industry.
1.dentist.
A dentist will treat undiagnosed problems with their patients teeth and mouth tissue. To become a dentist you must attend a dental school for four years and most dental applicants need to have a bachelors degree although a minimum of only two years pre dental education is required.
Dental hygienist.
These generally work under the supervision of a qualified dentist and provide the patience with care and information pertaining to the oral hygiene. To become qualified as a dental hygienist you must earn a degree from a dental hygiene skill. A license is then obtained after taking a written and practical exam.
Dental assistant.
These guys work alongside a qualified dentist and perform additional patient care but not the same tasks undertaken by dental hygienists. They will also perform a laboratory and administration duties to assist the dentist in the running of this practice.
